Northern Arizona University has multiple Graduate Assistant positions within the Athletic Department available for Fall 2015. The positions begin in August 2015 and are 1-year (9-10 month) appointments with the potential to be renewed upon a successful performance evaluation.

The program will provide Graduate Assistants with practical, professional experiences.  The GAs are members of the department staff and will be fully exposed to the daily operations of a Division I Athletics Department in preparation for a future in the business of intercollegiate athletics.

Benefits may include full or partial tuition waivers, monthly stipend and/or books scholarships.

Graduate Assistant Game Management/Facilities

Job Description

Northern Arizona University, located in Flagstaff, Arizona, is seeking applications for a graduate assistant to serve as the Game Management Coordinator for all home athletic events.  This 9 month position will be responsible for all aspects of event management including, but not limited to, serving as the primary game manager for all home athletic events, oversight of event set ups and tear downs, supervising a staff of student workers, and coordinating scheduling and payment of table crews for events.

Requirements

Admission to the Graduate College and ability to work nights and weekends are required. 

Benefits

Graduate school tuition waiver, books, and a $9,000 stipend will be provided.  No benefits provided.

Graduate Assistant Athletics Compliance

Job Description

Northern Arizona University, a NCAA Division I institution located in Flagstaff, Arizona, is seeking applications for a graduate assistant in the Athletics Compliance Office.  This 9 month position’s responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining student-athlete files/folders, updating Compliance Assistant (CA) and JumpForward, assisting with complimentary admissions pass list, processing National Letters of Intent, preparing rules education items, providing general customer service, and other monitoring duties as assigned.

Lumberjack Academic Services Graduate Assistant Position

Northern Arizona University Athletics is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Graduate Assistant position within the Office of Lumberjack Services. The position will report to the Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Academic services and assist in all aspects of the academic support program.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Student must have a Bachelor’s degree and credentials to be accepted into a graduate program at Northern Arizona University. Special consideration will be given to those who are former student-athletes, want to enter the Intercollegiate Athletic industry, and/or specifically student-athlete academic services and development. Previous experience tutoring or mentoring NCAA Division I student-athletes highly preferred. Must be able to work evenings and some weekends.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

▪  Excellent written and oral communication skills, including organizational skills, interpersonal skills

▪  Ability to establish and maintain effective student, staff, and faculty relationships

▪  Demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism and working with a diverse population

▪  Awareness of learning strategies and improvement techniques

▪  Possess strong organizational and computer skills

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Become a core team member of the academics program for student-athletes at Northern Arizona University.  This includes, but will not be limited to: assisting with the coordination of study hall and study hall supervision, mentoring, assisting with tutor program, implementation of the student-athlete development program (SAA Affairs), institutional excuses and academic progress reports.  Commit to following all rules and regulations required by NAU Department of Athletics, Arizona Board of Regents, the NCAA and the Big Sky Conference.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is contingent upon admission to the Graduate College as a degree seeking graduate student.  As a condition for renewal, the Graduate Assistant must remain in good academic standing with Graduate Program.  Begins Fall 2015 through Spring 2016 (with option of renewal, contingent on Master’s Program requirements). Compensation will include a stipend, tuition waiver, and course related textbooks. Graduate students may purchase the university student health care plan, which is not provided by athletics.
