Title: Faculty Athletics Representative

Dr. Alisse Ali-Joseph joined the NAU Athletics Department as the new faculty athletics representative in the fall of 2015.

Ali-Joseph was appointed to the new role by Dr. Cheng with her position set to begin the 2015-16 school year. The FAR is a role held by a member of the university faculty. Responsibilities for the FAR include, ensuring balance between academics and athletics for the benefit of the student–athlete, academic integrity, and institutional control.

Ali-Joseph is comfortable with athletics, as she was a student-athlete on the UC Davis women’s tennis team.

Ali-Joseph became a faculty member at NAU in 2013, as she teaches in the Applied Indigenous Studies department and specializes in the importance of sports and physical activity as a vehicle for empowerment, cultural identity, health and educational attainment for American Indian people. She also focuses on American Indian health and wellness and American Indian education.
