Student-Athletes Cheer on Girls on the Run

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Four student-athletes helped out with the New Balance Girls on the Run 5K Coconino country 5K race held at Buffalo Park. It is the second consecutive year NAU student-athletes have been involved with the event.

The New Balance Girls on the Run 5K presented by SKY Renewable Energy is a fun, non-competitive, untimed 3.1 mile run/walk.  The 5K is held at the end of each fall and spring season, on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and on the first Saturday in May. Girls participating in the program complete the event at their own pace with running buddies who are either women volunteers from the community or an immediate family member.

In partnership with the Girls on the Run staff, members from NAU’s women’s soccer and golf teams helped make this day a huge success. The student-athletes cheered on the girls and their running buddies during the race held at Buffalo Park Saturday, Sept. 20.

DID YOU KNOW…Student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff combined to volunteer more than 4,500 hours over the 2009-10 academic year, assisting with events like Red Ribbon Week, Relay for Life, Welcome Back Jacks, St. Mary’s Food Bank, Adopt a Family, Climb to Conquer Cancer. In all, the department participated with more than 20 different organizations and/or events.
