Athletics Department Hands Out Annual Awards
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University athletic department celebrated the 2009-10 campaign on Sunday with the annual All-Sports Banquet held at the DuBois Center.
Golfer Stephanie Kim from Phoenix was named Female Athlete of the Year, while Cross Country and Track and Field standout David McNeill, a senior from Melbourne, Australia, was chosen the Male Athlete of the Year.
Kim was chosen the Big Sky Player of the Year and the Big Sky Freshman of the Year, the first golfer in league history to win both honors in the same season. She is believed to be the first female in any sport to accomplish the feat. She is the third golf student-athlete in school history to be named Freshman of the Year and is the sixth player in school history to claim Player of the Year honors. She broke school records for scoring average, single round score, 54-hole score, tournaments won and number of par of better rounds in a season.
McNeill won the 2010 NCAA Indoor 5,000m championship and was the runner-up in 3000m at 2010 NCAA Indoors. He led the Lumberjacks to their third-consecutive Big Sky Cross Country Championship finishing first overall for the second-straight year. He also was named the 2010 Mountain Region Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA after claiming his second-consecutive first-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional and finished runner-up in the NCAA Cross Country National Championships to lead the NAU men to a fourth-place overall finish.
Volleyball’s Kelli Dallmann (Peoria, Ariz.) and basketball’s Amy Patton (Tempe, Ariz.) were named the Co-Female Newcomers of the Years. Jordan Chipangama, who runs on the cross country and track and field teams, was selected the Male Newcomer of the Year Award. He is from Lusaka, Zambia.
Lana Christensen (Diving), a junior from Casper, Wyo., and Grant Hamilton (Track and Field), a sophomore from Milford, N.H., received the Lumberjack Service Awards for their community service efforts

DID YOU KNOW…The Lumberjacks’ 3.16 cumulative GPA was the highest since department grades have been tracked starting in 1997 and marked the 11th semester in the last 12 overall the NAU student-athletes have recorded a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Since 1998, NAU student athletes have earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher in 21 of the 23 semesters.
