Northern Arizona University, a member of the Big Sky Conference, sponsors 15 NCAA Division I level athletic programs.

The Lumberjacks have earned three Big Sky Presidents' Cups, including back-to-back crowns in 2012-13 and 2013-14. NAU also claimed the 2013-14 Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Trophy - the first true sweep by an institution since 2000-01 - with the men repeating as all-sports winners for the 2014-15 academic year.

The success on and off the field continues for NAU Athletics. Most recently during the 2014-15 school year, five teams – men’s and women’s cross country, men’s indoor and outdoor track & field, women’s soccer and women’s golf all captured Big Sky Regular Season or Tournament Championships while women’s swimming & diving won back-to-back Western Athletic Conference Championships.

In the classroom, the Lumberjacks once again proved that academics is at the forefront of the student-athlete experience as NAU finished with a department-wide 3.13 cumulative GPA. Ten of 13 teams finished the 2014-15 academic year with a GPA of at least 3.00 led by the swimming and diving team, who recorded a 3.53 GPA, followed by women’s tennis and soccer. Four student-athletes received CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District honors, two of which were named CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American First Team honorees. NAU had 139 total student-athletes earn All-Academic honors by the Big Sky and WAC.

All 15 sponsored sports exceeded NCAA academic standards for the sixth consecutive year as the department posted an overall APR of 970. Twelve squads carried multi-year totals above 960, while six teams accomplished perfect single-year scores of 1000 led by the women’s tennis team who received the APR Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for earning a perfect single-year APR each of the last four years.

The Lumberjacks continue to give back to the community as the student-athletes completed the most community service hours ever in department history. The Lumberjacks’ set a goal of 4,500 hours for the 2014-15 academic year – they eclipsed the mark with an instrumental 5,327 hours.

Show your school spirit and join the excitement at football and men's and women's basketball games in the Walkup Skydome, the second largest wooden dome structure in the United States. NAU also runs a complete indoor track and field schedule in the Dome, while the soccer, swimming and diving and outdoor track and field programs have on-campus facilities. The golf and tennis teams compete and practice at local venues in and around Flagstaff.
