  • Hasquet and Vang Announced as Big Sky Scholar Athlete Award Recipients

    OGDEN, Utah – Austin Hasquet and Johanna Vang have been announced as Northern Arizona University’s 2015 Big Sky Scholar Athlete Award winners for their athletic and academic excellence. Hasquet and Vang were both honored as two of NAU’s four Golden Eagle Scholar-Athletes of the Year in April and were both Gold Axe Award recipients during the 2014-15 academic year.

During the 2014-15 academic year, Lumberjack student-athletes outdid themselves resetting the record with over 5,000 hours out in the Flagstaff community and the greater Northern Arizona region in an outstanding department-wide effort to give back.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In total, 42 Northern Arizona University student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend during the Spring 2015 commencement ceremonies held on campus yesterday and today. Including the 21 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2014 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 63 graduates for the 2014-15 academic year.

  • Take A Walk With Dejzon Walker

    Redshirt senior Dejzon Walker is back for his final season of Lumberjack Football. Walker, a native of Chandler, Ariz., is coming back from an injury that saw him sit out the entire 2014 season. During his junior year, Walker caught 24 passes for 361 yards and two touchdowns. He led the team with 40 yards per game and 15 yards per reception.

    For cornerback Marcus Alford, his senior season is right around the corner. Alford came to Northern Arizona University after a stellar high school campaign at Rio Mesa in Oxnard, Calif. By the end of Alford’s sophomore season at NAU, he was already being looked at as someone who was deemed a “leader” proving that he was an asset to the football program on and off the field.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Wednesday, NAU’s brightest student-athletes were honored at the 37th annual Golden Eagle Awards held at the High Country Conference Center. The annual luncheon recognizes Northern Arizona University’s student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 191 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments.

  • Catching Up with Senior Safety Eddie Horn

    Senior safety Eddie Horn returns to NAU for his final season. As a junior transfer last season, Horn led team with 88 tackles and tied for a team-high three interceptions. On the road at South Dakota, Horn recorded a career-high 18 tackles; the most by a Lumberjack in a single game since 2000.

    Get to know punter/kicker Ryan Hawkins. He connected on 37 of 38 PAT's and 12 of 16 field goals. Hawkins scored a team-high 73 points on the season. He was also the only lumberjack to earn Big Sky Weekly honors, achieving the distinction three weeks in a row.

The important Student-Athlete for a Day returned for the first time in three years and was a fun-filled day for both the Lumberjack student-athletes and the local youth.
  • Meet Running Back Casey Jahn

    Peoria, Ariz. native Casey Jahn will be a senior this fall. The running back led Northern Arizona in rushing yards last season with 824. He scored four touchdowns and averaged 68.7 yards per game. Jahn also caught 34 passes for 314 yards, finishing with 1,135 all-purpose yards.

    Tight end Patrick Baldenegro is prepping for his junior year. Baldenegro played for Northern Arizona as a true freshman, but standing 6-foot-5, you would have thought he redshirted a year. For the Chandler, Ariz. native, one of the things that puts a smile on his face is giving back. Whether it’s working a youth football camp, cleaning up around the community or participating in a march it all has the same effect on Baldenegro. It’s a privilege and opportunity that shouldn't be taken for granted.
