NAU Football Season Preview – Fall Camp Begins Aug. 4
If you’re looking from the outside in, most people would think that the 2014 season would be a rebuilding year for Northern Arizona University Football; this is not the case on the inside. The Lumberjacks know that they have a big void to fill in the run game with the loss of All-American Zach Bauman to graduation, but they believe that they have multiple pieces to the puzzle to fill the gap.

Six Lumberjacks Recognized on College Sports Madness Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Football Teams
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Six Northern Arizona football players were selected to the College Sports Madness Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Football Teams, announced today by the website. NAU received four offensive honors and two on defense.

NAU Football Earns Five USA Football Preseason Honors
ROSELAND, NJ – Northern Arizona earned five selections to the 11th Annual USA College Football FCS (Division I-AA) Pre-Season All-American Teams. Seniors RJ Rickert, Roy Garcia, and Austin Hasquet, along with junior Nick Butier and sophomore Jacob Julian were all recognized with preseason honors.

Game Times Set for NAU Football
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Home game times for the 2014 Northern Arizona football team have been set. The Lumberjacks will play five games at the Walkup Skydome. NAU went undefeated at home during the regular season last year, including a sellout crowd of 12,640 in the win over Montana.

Five Lumberjacks Named to Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona earned five selections to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team, announced today by the league office. Leading the way were seniors linebacker Austin Hasquet, offensive lineman Roy Garcia, and tight end RJ Rickert. Junior fullback Nick Butier and sophomore offensive lineman Jacob Julian round out the five.

Trio of NAU Seniors Named to BSN Big Sky Football Preseason All-Conference Team
LEESBURG, Va. – A trio of Northern Arizona seniors were named to the Beyond Sports Network Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team, announced by the organization. Linebacker Austin Hasquet received honors on the defensive side of the ball, while tight end RJ Rickert and lineman Roy Garcia were recognized on offense.

Lumberjack Football Ranked No. 20 in The Sporting News Preseason Poll
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona football team is ranked 20th in the Sporting News preseason poll. The Lumberjacks who finished second in the Big Sky Conference last year, and earned an at-large bid to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Playoffs ended the 2013 season ranked 15th in The Sports Network and FCS Coaches polls.

Former NAU Football Players Help Battle Slide Fire
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - With a treacherous wildfire less than 20 miles away from Flagstaff, volunteers from all over the state of Arizona have come out to lend a hand to contain the Slide Fire. Amongst the many people assisting with the Slide Fire are six former Northern Arizona football players – Drew Emanuel, Jake Hess, Andy Saldana, Bob Orrill, Nick Ragland-Johnsen and Parker Moore.

Austin Hasquet Earns Spot on 2014 CFPA Linebacker Watch List
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Northern Arizona’s Austin Hasquet has earned a spot on the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Awards Linebacker Watch List. The Academic All-American started all 12 games this past season and led the team with 91 tackles.

Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the second straight year women’s tennis has received the honor.

Bauman Inks Deal with the Arizona Cardinals
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU’s all-time leading rusher Zach Bauman is headed to the National Football League after signing a free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, keeping the star running back in-state. The Chandler, Ariz. native will ensure that his professional career begins in his home state after starring at Hamilton High School prior to his illustrious Lumberjack career.

SEATTLE, WA – Northern Arizona will have a pair of games televised by DIRECTV SPORTS Networks and the Big Sky Conference, as it announced its telecast schedule for the upcoming 2014 season with a total of 11 games to be televised on ROOT SPORTS™. This will mark the third year of a multi-year partnership between DIRECTV Sports Networks and the Big Sky Conference.

IRVING, Texas – Seniors Drew Emanuel and Kyle Walker received academic recognition today, as they became members of the National Football Foundation (NFF) 2014 Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After having yesterday’s Blue-Gold Spring Game postponed due to inclement weather, Northern Arizona football hit the fields today to make up for it. The final spring scrimmage was highlighted by both offensive and defensive plays that got the crowd going.

NAU Football Spring Game Cancelled Due to Snow
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona Football Blue-Gold Spring Game that was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Lumberjack Stadium has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The game was originally scheduled to be aired live on FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports College Pacific. The fan fest activities will go on as scheduled, but have been moved inside the Health and Learning Center (HLC). Fan fest will run from 12-4:30 p.m.

Amerson Earns Another Spot on the Big Sky’s 50 Greatest Men’s Moments
OGDEN, Utah – All-American and Northern Arizona Hall of Famer Archie Amerson is one of seven Big Sky Conference players that earned the Walter Payton Award, as the group ranks sixth on the Big Sky’s list of "50 Greatest Men's Moments.'' Amerson also earned the 14th best moment on the list for winning the Walter Payton Award.

Jerome Souers Earns Salute to Excellence Award
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Northern Arizona head football coach Jerome Souers was one of the recipients of the Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr., Salute to Excellence Award presented by the Fritz Pollard Alliance. Souers was honored along with 14 other NCAA head coaches. In his 16th season with the Lumberjacks, Souers led NAU to a 9-3 overall record and 7-1 Big Sky finish to place second in the conference. The Lumberjacks earned an at-large bid to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs to advance to the post season for the first time in 10 years.
