FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU's all-time leading rusher Zach Bauman is headed to the National Football League after signing a free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, keeping the star running back in-state. The Chandler, Ariz. native will ensure that his professional career begins in his home state after starring at Hamilton High School prior to his illustrious Lumberjack career.
Bauman wrapped up his career at NAU as the all-time leader in rushing yards, all-purpose yards, carries and points scored. In his senior season alone, Bauman eclipsed the 4,000 and 5,000 career rushing yards marks - the only player in NAU history to accomplish this feat. Bauman rushed for 1,456 yards on 270 carries. He finished the season with 1,764 all-purpose yards and a team-high 10 touchdowns. Bauman became the first running back in school history and ninth player in FCS history to rush for 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons. He capped his career with 25 100-yard games and four games of 200 or more yards.
