FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Redshirt junior Patrick Baldenegro was selected to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 Football Team, announced today by the organization. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. It is the second honor of Baldenegro's career, having last received the award in 2014.
Baldenegro, a native of Chandler, Ariz., is majoring in biomedical science and currently has a 3.82 grade point average. The tight end has earned AD Honor Roll recognition, is a three-time Golden Eagle Scholar Award winner and a six-time Dean's List honoree. He picked up 2013 and 2014 Big Sky Fall All-Academic nods. Baldenegro will graduate in May with his bachelor's degree.
Baldenegro redshirted the 2015 season, but has returned to the field appearing in every game this season at the tight end position and on special teams. He's averaging 4.4 yards per catch and has helped block for 500 and 400-plus yard rushers. Baldenegro is a part of an NAU offense that has tallied 3,848 yards.
Baldenegro will now be considered for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
