Trojans Slip Past NAU, 72-67
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona's offensive presence was on display tonight with two players registering a double-double and another player just missing out. The game was tied at the half but Little Rock narrowly outscored NAU in the second half to grab the 72-67 victory at the Rolle Activity Center.
The Lumberjacks (2-9) used the paint in the first half to post points on the scoreboard. NAU shot 50 percent from the field – its best first half performance this season – to enter halftime tied at 34-All against the visiting Trojans (9-2).
Both teams kept up the pressure in the second half with neither team going up by more than four points for the first 17 minutes of the period. With 3:09 left to play, Little Rock's Jalen Jackson hit a jumper to increase the Trojans' lead to 66-60.
NAU ran into a little bit of trouble knocking down shots the last three minutes, as JoJo Anderson scored NAU's final seven points of the game; four from the charity stripe.
The Lumberjacks outrebounded Little Rock 43 to 28 muscling their way under the basket to grab 27 defensive rebounds and leaving the Trojans with a mere three offensive boards.
Martin led NAU with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Anderson recorded his first career double-double of 12 points and 10 assists, while Marcus DeBerry (13) and DeBisschop (11) also finished the day in double digits.
Marcus Johnson Jr. led the charge for the Trojans tallying 15 points. Jalen Jackson had 14 points, Kemy Osse chipped in 11, and Maurius Hill rounded out Little Rock's top performers with 10 points, six rebounds and seven steals.
The Lumberjacks have two non-conference games left. NAU travels to UTEP on Saturday for a 7 p.m. MST tip-off versus the Miners. NAU closes out non-conference play at Illinois-Chicago on Tuesday, Dec. 20 with a 6 p.m. MST tip.
