Reiff Leads Men’s Tennis on First Day of ITA Regional
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Sophomore Andrew Reiff won a pair of
singles matches and also claimed a doubles victory with sophomore
Robin Pezzutto to lead Northern Arizona on the opening day of the
Wilson/ITA Division-I Men’s Mountain Regional in Las Vegas.
Action at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas continues through
Sunday.
Reiff opened singles play on Wednesday with a 6-2, 7-6 win over New
Mexico’s Matt Neeld. Later Wednesday, he got past Mikolaj
Borkowski of Montana, 6-0, 7-5, to advance to the singles round of
32. Freshmen Patrick Schimmelbauer and Hugo Ramadier and junior
David Flodberg also won their opening-round matches, but all fell
in the second round on Wednesday to leave Reiff as the only
Lumberjack to advance in the singles main draw.
Northern Arizona began action in Las Vegas with doubles play and
claimed a pair of victories. Reiff and Pezzutto defeated
Denver’s Jens Vorkefeld and Yannick Weihs, 8-4, while
Ramadier and freshman Kevin Taylor got by the UNLV pair of Matt
Kunkel and Attila Toth, 8-6. Both pairs advanced to play in the
doubles round of 32.
Action continues in Las Vegas on Thursday, beginning with doubles
at 8 a.m.
