Men’s Tennis Opens Weekend With 5-2 Win Over Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Northern Arizona claimed the doubles point and won four singles matches to defeat Air Force, 5-2, on Saturday morning in Cadet Gymnasium. With their second-consecutive victory, the Lumberjacks improved to 4-2 for the season while Air Force dropped to 1-2.

NAU picked up doubles wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions to claim an early lead. After sophomores Robin Pezzutto and Andrew Reiff cruised to an 8-3 win at No. 3, Freshmen Hugo Ramadier and Kevin Taylor just got past Air Force’s Austin Franics and Matt Wilhelm for a 9-7 win at No. 2 to clinch to the doubles point for the Lumberjacks.

Air Force would claim singles victories at No. 1 and 2, but Northern Arizona was victorious in the other four singles matches to pull away for the victory. Pezzutto cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 while Ramadier rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 to improve his team-best singles record to 5-1 for the season. Junior David Flodberg at No. 5 and Taylor at No. 6 both won in straight-sets to complete a successful Saturday for NAU.

The Lumberjacks will conclude weekend play in Colorado tomorrow in a Big Sky match at Northern Colorado, which lost to Air Force, 7-0, earlier this season. Match time is set for 9:00 a.m., beginning a double-header with the NAU women’s tennis team against the Bears.

DID YOU KNOW…The Lumberjacks had 11 of the 15 intercollegiate teams record a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher led by women’s soccer at 3.42. Women’s basketball was close behind at 3.39, followed by women’s cross country (3.35), women’s golf (3.29), swimming and diving (3.25) volleyball (3.22) and men’s cross country (3.19).
