Men’s and Women’s Tennis Both Picked Second in Big Sky Polls

OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona men's and women's tennis teams have both been picked to finish second in the preseason Big Sky coaches' polls, the conference announced Thursday. Sacramento State was picked to repeat as both men's and women's tennis champions. Both Lumberjack teams finished second in 2010 and advanced to the Big Sky Championship final.

The Lumberjack men finished with 53 points, including one first place vote. Sacramento State garnered 63 points and seven first place votes, while Montana received 47 points and one first place vote to be picked third. The NAU men's tennis team returns five of six starters this season, including two-time All-Big Sky first team selection Andrew Reiff. Sophomore Hugo Ramadier returns for his sophomore season after being named All-Big Sky second team as a freshman, while lone-senior David Flodberg will play his final collegiate season after going 14-6 overall and 8-0 in the Big Sky in 2010 and earning conference Honorable Mention honors.

NAU's women's tennis team is once again picked to finish second after falling to Sacramento State in the 2010 Big Sky Championship for the fifth-consecutive season. The Lumberjack women garnered 55 points and one first place vote while the Hornets received 64 points and eight first place votes. NAU returns all-six starters from 2010, five of whom earned All-Big Sky honors. Senior Edit Suhajda received her third All-Big Sky first team selection after posting a 13-6 overall record and a 7-1 conference mark in 2010. Also returning are All-Big Sky second team selections Orsi Golovics, Yumi Hasegawa and Malia Wahinepio and honorable mention honoree Nicole Perez. The Lumberjack women went 13-7 overall and 7-1 in conference play last season.

The NAU men being their season on Monday at Scottsdale Community College, while the women will begin their 2011 campaign next Friday, January 21, at No. 49 Arizona. Both teams will play their first home match in Flagstaff Athletic Club East on March 5.
