TUCSON, Ariz. – Northern Arizona senior David Flodberg and junior Robin Pezzutto won at No. 3 doubles, but No. 42 Arizona claimed the other two doubles matches and swept singles for a 7-0 win over the Lumberjacks on Sunday in Tucson. NAU dropped to 2-4 on the season while the Wildcats improved to 3-2.
All three double matches were tightly contested, with Flodberg and Pezzutto outlasting Arizona's Kieren Thompson and Andre Vidaller in a tiebreak at No. 3, 9-8 (5). The No. 2 doubles matches also went to a tiebreak, with Arizona claiming a 9-8 (6) victory, while the Wildcats also narrowly took the No. 1 match, 9-7, to jump to a 1-0 lead.
Singles would be dominated by Arizona, as the Wildcats won all six matches in straight sets. The most competitive battle was at No. 3, where Pezzutto pushed Arizona freshman Giacomo Miccini in a 7-5, 6-4 loss. Flodberg dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No.4 while sophomore Hugo Ramadier fell in a 6-3, 6-4 final at No. 1 as the Wildcats completed a 7-0 sweep.
The Lumberjacks are off until Friday, February 18, when they will open a three-match swing in Las Cruces, N.M., against Western New Mexico.
