Men's Tennis Struggles Against Host Team at UNLV Fall Invitational
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Freshman Steven Say was the lone NAU men's tennis player to claim victory in round one of singles play at the UNLV Fall Invitational on Friday. He defeated Peter Jones of Portland, 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the second round tomorrow.
The rest of the Lumberjacks went 0-7, with all losses to the host school, in singles play. Senior Josh Brown was the lone Lumberjack to take a set, losing in three sets to the UNLV's Willie Sublette, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Lumberjacks struggled to fare better in doubles play, going 1-2 as a team on Day 1 of the tournament. The pair of junior Shaun Waters and senior Robin Pezzutto put the Lumberjack men on the board with a first round victory over Rene Ruegamer and Tamas Batyi of UNLV, 8-5, but NAU's two other double teams both fell victim to the Runnin' Rebels' duos.
Day 2 of the tournament continues tomorrow morning in Las Vegas, Nev.
