Men's Tennis Struggles for Wins in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Sophomore Dominic Bermudez and juniors Patrick Schimmelbauer and Robert Martin represented the Northern Arizona men's tennis team on Friday at UNLV's Larry Easley Memorial Classic, but only Bermudez came away with a victory. After falling to Johannes Markel of the host school in the first round of singles play, Bermudez moved on in the consolation draw of the flight two singles with a default win over UC Irvine's Jacob Jung.
Schimmelbauer lost both of his singles matches on the first day of the tournament, falling to UNLV's Alex Bull and Arkansas' Nicholas Zogaj, while Martin was defeated by New Mexico's Ian Supple. Schimmelbauer and Bermudez also paired up in flight one of doubles play, but were defeated by New Mexico's duo of Mitch McDaniels and Mads Hegelund, 8-5.
The Lumberjacks return to action at the Fertitta Tennis Complex tomorrow for Day 2 of the Easley Memorial Classic.
