OGDEN, Utah – Junior Dominic Bermudez was named all-conference for the second consecutive year on Thursday after a solid junior season. He was named All-Big Sky Honorable Mention after receiving second team honors last season in a vote by the conference head coaches.
"Dominic is a great player and a great competitor," said director of tennis Kim Bruno. "He's proven that year after year. He's gotten really good here at NAU and it's well-deserved for him."
Coming off a team-leading 12-9 season in 2012, Bermudez posted his second consecutive double-digit win season in 2013 for the Northern Arizona men's tennis team. He compiled a 10-10 overall record this season as the Lumberjacks' primary No. 3 player in the singles lineup and was a team-best 7-3 in conference play. His 10 wins ranked only behind senior Robert Martin's 11 victories.
Bermudez finished the season strong, winning five of his last seven matches all of which were against conference opponents. The strong finish put an end to a great junior season in which he started off slow winning just two of his first seven matches.
The Tucson, Ariz. product was impressive in doubles play as well as he was one-half of the team's primary No. 2 doubles pair. Teaming with senior Patrick Schimmelbauer, Bermudez won 10 of his last 11 doubles matches with one unfinished contest to end the season. Overall, Bermudez ranked second on the team in doubles victories at 12-6, 8-2 within the Big Sky. Together with Schimmelbauer, the pair notched a 12-2 mark, tops on the team.
Bermudez becomes the 15th player in program history to be a multiple All-Big Sky selection.
