FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team will conclude its fall schedule this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev., at the UNLV Easley Fall Invite. The Lumberjacks have improved each meet this fall and look to end on a high note as they face some tough competition as they face schools from across the country including in-state Arizona and Grand Canyon as well as Auburn and Oregon.
"There will be some solid teams in the invite this weekend, which should bring out the best in our players" said head coach Ki Kroll. "Being that it is the last tournament of the fall, I am looking for our players to make a strong impression for our team heading into spring."
The Lumberjacks had last week off after participating the ITA Mountain Region Championships, which also took place in Las Vegas. Alexandre Locci, Fabio Tomasetti, Kester Black, Jordan Gobatie and Alan Barrios all participated at ITA Regionals and performed very well. The team posted a 5-3 record in doubles play with wins coming from Gobatie and Locci being paired up together and also Black and Tomasetti sharing the court together.
Northern Arizona was able to pick up six wins in singles play led by Gobatie who posted a 2-1 record and now looks to keep his momentum into this weekend's tournament.
Kroll has seen massive improvements from his newcomers Locci, Tomasetti and Gobatie this fall, which will prepare them for spring.
"I am very proud of our newcomers," said Kroll. "I am happy to know our future looks bright as they have stepped up and represented our team very well."
Kroll has been able to infuse young talent he has brought in so far along with the returners Alan Barrios, Trevor Unger and Kester Black.
"We are continuing to build great team chemistry with our young players and upperclassmen," said Kroll. "Alan, Kester and Trevor have all taken responsibility to unite our team and I am very grateful for each of their commitment."
Play at the Easley Fall Invite will begin on Friday, Nov. 1 at UNLV in Las Vegas.
