FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After an excellent weekend for the Northern Arizona men's tennis team, junior Kester Black has been named this week's Big Sky Player of the Week.
Kester Black had an outstanding week as the Lumberjacks went 2-1 and Northern Arizona has won four of their last five matches. Black started off the week with a big win over Northern Colorado in singles play. The native of Scotland defeated Northern Colorado's Eric Schuermans 6-2, 6-3 to give the Lumberjacks their third straight win in the Big Sky.
Black continued his stellar play when the Lumberjacks traveled to Las Vegas to face Air Force and UNLV. Black was a key member of the upset over Air Force when he defeated Alex Grubbs from Air Force 6-1, 7-6 (5-0). To end the week, Black was the only Lumberjack to get a win in singles play against UNLV when he defeated Willie Sublette 6-7 (0-5), 6-1, 10-3.
Black is now on a five-match winning streak in singles play and has been a key member of the Lumberjacks recent turnaround. Two weeks ago, the Lumberjacks were in 10th in the Big Sky and since then, the Lumberjacks are 4-1 and Black has not lost a singles match in that time.
Black and the Lumberjacks will continue play at home this weekend against Montana on Sunday.
