Men’s Tennis Heads Back to Las Vegas for UNLV Invitational
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis team is back in action this weekend as they head back to Las Vegas, Nev. for the UNLV Easley Fall Invitational. The Lumberjacks’ last tournament was two weeks ago in Las Vegas at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships.

NAU Athletics Posts 85 Percent Graduation Success Rate
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Northern Arizona Athletics Department posted a school-best 85 percent Graduation Success Rate, as released by the NCAA national office Tuesday. It was the highest of the three state universities, and tied for the best in the Big Sky Conference.

NAU Student-Athletes Spread Message During Red Ribbon Week
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona University Athletics participated in the annual Red Ribbon Week throughout the community last week, from Oct. 20-24. A total of 134 student-athletes participated in Red Ribbon Week visiting local schools, speaking with Flagstaff’s youth and interacting with them in athletic activities.

Men’s Tennis Impressive at UNM Balloon Invitational
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis team continues to impress early this year as freshman Felix Schumann became the first Lumberjack this fall to take first place in a singles draw as he went 4-0 in the Silver Draw at the University of New Mexico Balloon Invitational. Throughout the weekend, the Lumberjacks picked up 15 victories in singles play, while also winning five doubles matches.

NAU Student-Athletes Welcome Incoming Lumberjack Freshmen
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Nearly 200 Northern Arizona student-athletes helped greet the incoming NAU Class of 2018 over the last two days in partnership with Welcome Back Jacks. The student-athletes along with a number of student groups at times battled the rainy Flagstaff weather and volunteered to assist the new freshmen and their families move into their new home for the upcoming school year.

Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the second straight year women’s tennis has received the honor.

Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis team never gave up in any match when they were down this season and today was no different in the Big Sky Championship quarterfinals. After trailing 1-0 after doubles play, the Lumberjacks fought back sweeping singles against Northern Colorado and NAU moves on to the semifinals with a 4-1 win over the Bears.

The Lobos played like one of the top teams in the nation as they handed the Lumberjacks a 7-0 loss.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis team played its third straight match in Tucson to start out the season, this time facing Gonzaga. The Lumberjacks received singles wins from junior Jordan Gobatie, freshman Fabio Tomasetti and junior Kester Black but the Lumberjacks fell short to the Bulldogs 4-3. Play was delayed three hours due to rain in Tucson.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis team will play its third straight match in Tucson to open the season. Saturday’s matchup will be against Gonzaga who has started the season 2-0. The Lumberjacks are coming off their first win of the season against UC Riverside in Tucson last weekend. Junior Alan Barrios clinched the win for NAU to give the Lumberjacks a 4-3 win and give first year head coach Ki Kroll his first win at Northern Arizona.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis team faced the University of Arizona in their first match of the season and came away with 7-0 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. Strong Showing for Men’s Tennis at New Mexico

The invitational featured some tough competition from the southwest and the Lumberjacks competed very well making head coach Ki Kroll proud of the team’s effort and improvement throughout the beginning of fall season.

Ki Kroll Named Head Men's Tennis Coach
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Ki Kroll has been hired as the new head coach of the Northern Arizona men’s tennis team, announced today by Dr. Lisa Campos, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. Kroll brings an extensive coaching experience, including the collegiate, tennis club and youth ranks, with him to the Lumberjack men’s tennis program following the last three seasons at the University of Southern Mississippi.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis team participated in its first invitational of the fall season and the Lumberjacks came away with some impressive results. Junior transfer Jordan Gobatie won his flight going 4-0 in singles play defeating Strahinja Trecakov from New Mexico State 6-1, 7-6 in the final.

The Lumberjacks return four players in junior Kester Black, junior Alan Barrios, sophomore Sarp Laleli and junior Trevor Unger. In his first season as the Northern Arizona men’s tennis head coach, Ki Kroll brings in four newcomers to his program.

OGDEN, Utah – Junior Dominic Bermudez was named all-conference for the second consecutive year on Thursday after a solid junior season. He was named All-Big Sky Honorable Mention after receiving second team honors last season in a vote by the conference head coaches.

Men's Tennis Edged By Portland State, 4-3, on Senior Day
SEDONA, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's team battled Portland State in its season finale, but the Vikings spoiled the Lumberjacks' Senior Day on Sunday, 4-3, at the Enchantment Resort. Waters Wins Fourth Straight in Men's Tennis Loss to Air Force
USAFA, Colo. – A day after handing one Big Sky opponent a 6-1 defeat, Air Force did the same to the Northern Arizona men's tennis team on Sunday. The Falcons knocked off Portland State on Saturday and then returned to their home court to deny the Lumberjacks their third straight victory by the same 6-1 margin. NAU's only victory of the day came courtesy of junior Shaun Waters' fourth consecutive win at the No. 4 spot, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 over the Falcons' Alex Lineberry.

Men’s Tennis Embarks on Two-Match Western Swing
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Winners of two consecutive matches, the Northern Arizona men’s tennis team heads west for a pair of competitions this weekend, weather permitting. The Lumberjacks are slated to battle Nevada (3-8) in Reno on Saturday and close their trip against Big Sky foe Sacramento State (8-8, 5-0 BSC) on Sunday. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona won all-six singles matches in straight sets and swept doubles in a commanding 7-0 victory over Idaho State on Monday afternoon in Flagstaff Athletic Club East. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men’s and women’s tennis teams have altered their schedules for the week following spring break. LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Heavy rain and wind in Las Cruces has canceled all tennis matches scheduled at New Mexico State this morning, including Northern Arizona’s scheduled women’s match against New Mexico State and the Lumberjack men’s neutral-site match against Idaho. Both teams return to Flagstaff after playing road matches Thursday-Saturday.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Facing their highest-ranked opponent of the season, the Lumberjacks were swept in both singles and doubles as No. 59 New Mexico State recorded a 7-0 shutout on Saturday morning in Las Cruces. Playing on the third of four consecutive days of matches in Las Cruces, Northern Arizona dropped to 7-4 while the Aggies moved to 5-3.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Freshmen Hugo Ramadier and Kevin Taylor extended their impressive winning streaks, but Texas-Arlington won the other-four singles matches and the doubles point for a 5-2 victory on Friday morning in Las Cruces. The loss ended Northern Arizona’s five-match winning streak, dropping the Lumberjacks to 7-3, while Texas-Arlington improved to 2-4.

Men’s Tennis Battles Back to Top Texas-Pan American, 4-3
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After dropping the doubles point, Northern Arizona rallied to win four singles matches, including a match-clinching third set tiebreak win for Junior David Flodberg, to defeat Texas-Pan American, 4-3, in Las Cruces. NAU won its fifth-consecutive match to improve to 7-2 for the season while the Broncos dropped to 0-6. The match was the first of four over the weekend for NAU in Las Cruces.

Winter Olympics Close to Home for Men’s Tennis Freshman Taylor
Kevin Taylor, a freshman starter on the Northern Arizona men’s tennis team, is spending his first year away from his home in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, located just an hour and a half by ferry from Vancouver, the host site for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Though Taylor is enjoying his time in Flagstaff, he is understandably disappointed to be away from home as his native land is in the world spotlight for two weeks as the host of the Olympics.

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Arizona lost only one set in singles play and swept doubles in a dominate 7-0 victory over Northern Colorado on Sunday morning in Greeley. With the win, the Lumberjacks improved to 3-0 in Big Sky play and 5-2 overall while the Bears dropped to 0-3 and 0-1 in conference, having been swept in all three of their matches.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles battles to upset Sacramento State, the team picked to win the Big Sky, 6-1 in both teams season opener on Thursday in snowy Flagstaff. The win for NAU was its first over the Hornets since a 4-3 victory in Sacramento in 2005, while the loss for the Hornets ended a streak of 24 consecutive Big Sky regular season victories dating back to April 1, 2006.
