OGDEN, Utah - Northern Arizona's Stephanie Kim has been selected as the Black Clover Big Sky Conference golfer of the week following a tie for sixth place at the New Mexico State Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate.
Kim, a sophomore from Tempe, Ariz., fired a three-under-par 69 in Wednesday's final round. The reigning Big Sky champion carded a 75 in the first round and a 74 in the second round to finish with a two-over-par 218 at the 54-hole tournament played at New Mexico State's golf course.
"She goes about her business and consistently posted good scores,'' said NAU coach Brad Bedortha. She is very enjoyable to watch.''
Kim helped the Lumberjacks to a 10th-place finish. The Lumberjacks shot a 306 in the first round, followed by a 301 and a 297 for a 904. New Mexico State won the event with an 866. Lene Hafsten-Morch of Baylor claimed medalist honors with a seven-under-par 209.
This is Kim's second golfer of the week honor this season and the fourth of her career.
Around the Big Sky
The University of Montana finished second in the 14-team LPGA Xavier Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla. Montana shot rounds of 299, 310 and 298 for a 907. The Grizzlies were 13 shots behind winner Daytona St. College. The tournament was played Oct. 8-10 at the LPGA Legends Course. UM's Lauren Howell finished fourth (73-76-73=222). Senior Carissa Simmons tied for fifth at 224.
Portland State led a contingent of four Big Sky teams as the Colorado Heather Farr Memorial, played Oct. 8-9 at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo. The Vikings shot a 54-hole total of 927. Sophomore Britney Yada finished 18th to lead the Vikings. She fired rounds of 77-74-81 for a 232.
Montana State was ninth with a 943. Weber State was 10th at 966. Northern Colorado was 11th at 983. Kelly O'Brien and Leslie McGetrick tied for 19th to lead the Bobcats at 233. Northern Colorado's Carleigh Silvers tied for 29th at 237. Weber State's Kelsey Adams also tied for 29th at 237.
