Golfer Alexa Kim Shares Black Clover Golfer of the Week
OGDEN, Utah - Northern Arizona's Alexa Kim and Portland State's Tiffany Schoning have been selected as the Black Clover co-Big Sky Conference golfers of the week after each claimed medalist honors at tournaments.
Kim, a senior from Chandler, Ariz., won medalist honors at the Cal Poly/Lamken Grip Invitational. Kim shot a first-round 77 and closed with an even-par 73 for a 150 to win by one shot over three other players. Kim helped Northern Arizona to the team championship in the 17-team tournament. NAU shot rounds of 310-302 for a 612, topping Fresno State by three shots. The tournament was played Monday and Tuesday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
Schoning, a junior, claimed medalist honors at the Turtle Bay Collegiate in Kahuku, Hawai'i. Schoning shot rounds of 74, 76 and closed with a three-under-par 69 to finish the 54-hole tournament with a 218, two shots clear of the field. Schoning made five birdies in her final round, as she tied her collegiate low with a 69. Her 218 tied for the third-best 54-hole total in school history.
Schoning helped the Vikings to a second-place finish in the seven-team tournament. PSU shot rounds of 299, 304, 297 for a 900, two shots behind Princeton, and five shots better than BYU. The tournament was played at the Turtle Bay Resort Nov. 2-4. Kalyn Dodge of Portland State finished third with a 222. Britney Yada tied for seventh with a 225.
Around the Big Sky
Four other Big Sky squads competed at the Cal Poly tournament. Sacramento State was sixth with a 621. Weber State was 11th with a 647, followed by Montana State 652 and Idaho State was 17th with a 711.
Northern Arizona's Stephanie Kim and Kaitlen Parsons both tied for fifth at 152.
Sacramento State's Samantha Saffold tied for 10th with a 153. Weber State's Kelsey Adams tied for 12th with a 154. Molly Dorans led Montana State, tying for 33rd with a 160. Kylie Smith tied for 49th to lead Idaho State with a 164.
The fall season is complete for Big Sky Conference teams.
