Women’s Golf Opens Play at New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Northern Arizona women's golf team shot a 18-over par 306 in the first round of the Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico State. But it could have been better as the Lumberjacks struggled over the final holes of the opening round.

"We had a good round today but I am disappointed because we did not finish as well as we should have," said Head Coach Brad Bedortha. "We just need to get a few more pars."

NAU counted four rounds in the 70s led by sophomore Stephanie Kim's three-over par 75. Senior Dakin Whitmer posted a four-over par 76, while classmate Alexa Kim carded a 77. Freshman Kaitlen Parsons recorded a six-over par 78, while freshman Catherine Benscoter had an 89.

The Lumberjacks are 11th overall in a field of 14 teams but enter the second round just 10 strokes out of the top five. Baylor leads the tournament at 285, followed by UC-Irvine (286) and host New Mexico State (289).

The second round will be contested on Tuesday.
