RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Sophomore Stephanie Kim shot a three-over par round of 75 to lead the Northern Arizona women's golf team in the first round of the Rio Verde Invitational hosted by Western Michigan at the Rio Verde Country Club.
Kim carded a three-over par round of 75 with three birdies, four bogeys and a double, closing with two birdies on the final four holes to tie for 14th. Seniors Dakin Banta and Bethany Leclair and freshman Kaitlen Parsons all had rounds of 78 and tied for 19th in the standings.
Senior Alexa Kim, the reigning Big Sky Player of the Week, recorded an 80 in the first round.
Northern Arizona is fourth overall in a talented field after posting a 309 team score after the first 18 holes of the three-day event.
Eastern Michigan is leading the tournament after a six-over par 294. Michigan, ranked No. 66 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, is second with a 300 and No. 71 Penn State is third at 306.
The second round will take place Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
