Women’s Golf Shoots 302, Moves Up to Third at Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's golf team shot a 302 team score to move up to third overall at the Rio Verde Invitational hosted by Western Michigan at the Rio Verde Country Club.

NAU had the low round of the day and trails team leader Eastern Michigan by 11 and Michigan by three strokes entering the final round on Sunday. Penn State is three strokes back in fourth, while Toledo is six back in fifth overall.

The Lumberjacks got strong performances on Saturday from seniors Dakin Whitmer and Bethany Leclair. Whitmer carded a one-over par 73 and moved up to a tie for 12th overall in the individual standings. Leclair is one stroke back in a tie for 14th after recording a one-over par 74 in the second round.

Sophomore Stephanie Kim is 10-over par for the tournament after a 79 on Saturday, ranking 18th overall. Freshman Kaitlen Parsons is one stroke back at 155 after a 77.

Senior Alexa Kim was two strokes better on Saturday with a six-over par 78, tying for 33rd overall.

The third and final round will be played on Sunday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
