LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - Northern Arizona women's golf holds the top spot on the leaderboard after the first day of competition at the 2011 Lumberjack Shootout at Wigwam.  NAU sits six strokes ahead of Tarleton State after shooting 287 on Monday.  It is the second-best round in school history.

NAU came out strong in the opening day of play placing four Lumberjacks in the top 10.  Stephanie Kim shot a two-under par 70 followed by Alexa Kim's one-under 71.

Kaitlen Parsons and Bethany Leclair finished one-over par and tied for 10th place rounding out the Lumberjacks top performers.

"The girls played great today," said head coach Brad Bedortha.  "They were ready from the start.  We have played well over the last several tournaments and they continued that today.  We are hoping for the same kind of results tomorrow."

In a field of fourteen teams, the Lumberjacks are the only team below par shooting a stroke under.  Tarleton State ended the day shooting 293 as a team followed by Indiana at 296.

"We had some really good individual performances," Bedortha said.  "Stephanie and Alexa stepped up today.  They are a big reason why we are in the top spot right now."

The Lumberjack Shootout continues at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
