Women’s Golf Program Signs Marana High School Product Olson

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Melissa Olson, a product of Marana Mountain View High School, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to attend Northern Arizona University in the fall, Head Golf Coach Brad Bedortha announced.

"We are very excited to sign another player from the state of Arizona," said Bedortha. "Melissa works very hard on her game and continues to get better and better. I think she can be a sleeper that can really come in and contribute to the program."

Olson was a three-year letter winner and starter for Lynne Cote at Marana Mountain View High School. She was named to the All-Southern Arizona second team and Division I first-team by the Arizona Daily Sun after her senior season this spring. She was named the JGAA Player of the Year in 2009 and also represented Arizona at the 2010 Girls Junior America's Cup.

"She is a great student and brings a lot to the program," said Bedortha.

Olson joins a 2010-11 recruiting class that includes fall signees Laura Jabczenski of Catalina Foothills High School in Tucson and Susana Mejia of Colombia.

The Lumberjacks recently completed the 2010-11 campaign, finishing second at the Big Sky Conference Championships. NAU won four tournaments during the 2010-11 season, tying the school record for wins in a season set in 2009-10.
