Women’s Golfer Stephanie Kim Heads All-Conference Golf Team

OGDEN, Utah - For the second consecutive season, Northern Arizona's Stephanie Kim has been named the Big Sky Conference Golf Player of the Year.

"It is a huge honor for her," said Head Coach Brad Bedortha. "She is playing great and is a phenomenal player. She brings support to the team in everything she does."

The sophomore from Tempe, Ariz., also led the All-Conference First Team, which was announced by the league office Thursday. The All-Conference team and individual awards are based on rankings provided by Golfstat.

Portland State's Lauren Taylor, of Nelson, British Columbia, garnered Freshman of the Year.

Kim will enter the Big Sky Championship on April 18-20 with a scoring average of 75.19 strokes per round. She has finished in the top five at four events this season, and has a total of eight top 20-finishes in 10 tournaments. Her Golfstat ranking is 138.

Kim is the reigning Big Sky Champion. She fired an even-par 216 at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz., last season. Kim also won the Freshman of the Year in 2010-11.

This year's Freshman of the Year is the first ever from Portland State. Taylor came on strong this spring, claiming medalist honors at the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational and the Cal State Fullerton Folino Invitational. Taylor has a Golfstat ranking of 236. Taylor averages 75.80 strokes per round

The top five rated golfers from the Golfstat rankings earned First Team honors. The second five earned Second Team honors.

Joining Kim and Taylor on the First Team are Portland State's Britney Yada and Tiffany Schoning, and Northern Arizona's Alexa Kim, no relation to Stephanie.

Yada, a sophomore from Hilo, Hawai'i, has a ranking of 209. She averages 75.67 strokes per round. Yada recently tied for medalist honors at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at Ocotillo, firing a three-under-par 213. Yada has four top-five finishes, and seven top-10 finishes this season.

Alexa Kim, a senior from Chandler, Ariz., has a ranking of 261 and averages 76.22 strokes per round. She was the medalist at Cal Poly's fall tournament.

Stephanie and Alexa Kim, and Yada earned First-Team honors in 2009-10.

Schoning, a junior from Bend, Ore., has a ranking of 283 and averages 76.15 strokes per round. During the fall, she claimed medalist honors at the Turtle Bay Collegiate Invitational and the Oregon State/Washington Triangle.

Montana's Carissa Simmons and Lauren Howell, Portland State's Kalyn Dodge, Northern Arizona's Bethany Leclair and Northern Colorado's Carleigh Silvers were named to the Second Team.
