Women’s Golf Program Adds Michigan, Colorado Products

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women’s golf team has added three student-athletes who will join the program this fall, Head Coach Brad Bedortha announced.

“This is a good class for us and I am excited to see how they fit into the mix,” said Bedortha. “It should be a fun year for us.”

The Lumberjacks have signed Catherine Benscotor (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer West), Jacquee Benscoter (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer West/Ferris State) and Jessie Joachim (Hudson, Colo./Weld Central).

Catherine Benscoter is three-time All-Metro League first team choice and earned all-state honors two times at Lapeer West. She recorded two top-10 finishes at the Michigan State Championships and helped her school to the first two team regional titles in school history.

“She has a good swing and has posted good scores during her high school career,” said Bedortha. “I think she can add a lot to our team.”

Jacquee Benscoter, who is the older sister of Catherine, played for Bedortha at Ferris State. She won the Bulldog Invitational in her first collegiate tournament and attended the University of Michigan-Flint last year. During her prep career, she was a first-team all-state selection and won two Metro League championships and two regional titles.

“I think Jacquee has all the tools to be a very good player,” said Bedortha. “I am looking forward to coaching her again. I think she will not only compete but push the other players.”

Joachim was a four-time state qualifier for Brighton High School, finishing tied for eighth at the Class 5A State Championships as a senior. She was the Valedictorian for her graduating class and served as the president of the National Honor Society and her senior class. She helped her team to two league championships.

“I was impressed with her short game and she has played quite a bit of competitive golf,” said Bedortha. “She is a great student and will be able to compete for us.”
