FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's golf team opens its 2010-11 season Monday at The Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational women's golf tournament at Circling Raven Golf Course in Worley, Idaho, Sept. 13-14, 2010.
Gonzaga University will host 19 other schools for the Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational. The field includes Boise, State, Brigham Young, British Columbia, CS Northridge, Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, Northern Arizona, Oregon State, Portland, Portland State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, Washington State and Weber State.
The format will be 36 holes Monday, 18 holes Tuesday with a shotgun start scheduled for both days at 8 a.m. Pacific Time.
For Parsons, her collegiate debut will come just 21 miles from her hometown in Greenacres, Wash., where she as a standout at University High School.
"I am really excited," said Parsons. "I played well in the qualifiers and I have played the course we are going to play. It is a tricky course but I am excited."
She was a four-year letter winner and four-time Greater Spokane League first-team selection (2007-10), advancing to the WIAA State Tournament four times, placing fourth in 2008, eighth in 2009 and seventh in 2010.
"I feel like I am going to have more support going home," said Parsons. "I have never been to a tournament where my family has not been there to watch me. Support is a big deal for me so it will be fun."
Parsons had a strong summer, winning the 2010 Idaho Golf Association (IGA) Junior Championship at Bryden Canyon Golf Course in Lewiston, Idaho.
After the two-day tournament, the Lumberjacks return home to host the Hilton Garden Inn Mountain Shootout at Flagstaff Ranch Golf Course Sept. 20-21.
