Golfer Kim Wins Match at U.S. Women’s Amateur in 19 Holes
BARRINGTON, R.I. – Junior Stephanie Kim came back from two holes down with six to play and won on the first extra hole to defeat Pamela Prestswell of Scotland to record her first career win in match play in a USGA event. She advances to the round of 32 at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship held at Rhode Island Country Club.
The Tempe, Ariz., native birdied three of the first six holes to take a two-hole advantage early in the match. She then bogeyed the next two holes to square the match. Pretswell won back-to-back holes on the 10th and 11th holes with pars to take the lead but Kim tied the match by winning both the 13th and 15th. Both golfers pared out forcing the extra hole. Kim then pared the 379-yard first hole to clinch the match.
Kim will play Lee Lopez of Whittier, Calif., at 9:10 a.m. Eastern time. Lopez defeated Kristina Merkle of Honolulu 4 and 2.
