FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's golf team opens its 2011-12 season Monday at The Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational women's golf tournament at Circling Raven Golf Course in Worley, Idaho, Sept. 12-13, 2011.
"We are excited to get out and compete," said Head Coach Brad Bedortha. "They are anxious to play a tournament. They have been working hard to prepare for it."
The Lumberjacks tied for first with BYU in the final team standings last season and won the tournament based on its fifth player score, defending their title at the event. Freshman Kaitlen Parsons shined in her collegiate debut just 21 miles from her hometown in Greenacres, Wash., where she was a standout at University High School. Overall, she tied for second at 219 with Gonzaga's Victoria Fallgren and led the tournament after the first round.
"Kaitlen is looking forward to going home," said Bedortha. "She has been working hard on her game and making some adaptations to her swing. She is starting to hit it better and feel more consistent with it."
Gonzaga University will host 21 other schools for the Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational. The field includes Gonzaga University (host), Boise State University, University of British Columbia, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Eastern Washington University, University of Hawai'i, University of Montana, Montana State University, NAU, Portland State University, Sacramento State University, University of San Francisco, Samford University, Seattle University, Southern Utah University, UC Riverside, Utah Valley University, Washington State University, Weber State University, Xavier University.
The format will be 36 holes Monday, 18 holes Tuesday with a shotgun start scheduled for both days at 8 a.m. Pacific Time.
