Red Rocks Invitational Information

TEEING IT UP…

The Northern Arizona University women's golf team will play host to the 2012 Red Rocks Invitational at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, March 3-4. Saturday will be a shot gun start at 1 p.m., while Sunday will start at 8 a.m. with a shot gun start with 18 holes played each day.

THE FIELD...

The field for the 2012 Red Rocks Invitational will include 20 teams – host Northern Arizona, CSU Bakersfield, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Montana, Montana State, Northern Colorado, Northern Kentucky, North Dakota, Oakland, Seattle, South Dakota, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Xavier, Weber State, Western Michigan, Western New Mexico and Wyoming.

Three teams return for a seventh consecutive season to the event, including Montana, Montana State and Western Michigan.

THE COURSE...

Oakcreek Country Club, designed by the famous father and son team of Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Robert Trent Jones Jr., can truly be described as a work of art. The par 72, 18-hole championship golf course (6,084 yards) is nestled among the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona with views beyond compare and the golf course design a masterpiece. LAST YEAR…

The Northern Arizona women's golf team won the Red Rocks Invitational for the second consecutive season posting a 10-stroke victory over 60th-ranked Western Michigan at the Oakcreek Country Club.

The Lumberjacks entered the day with a nine-stroke lead and held off Western Michigan after posting the low score of the day at 309 for a two-day total of 613 at 37-over par for the 36-hole tournament.

Senior Alexa Kim finished a team-best second overall at seven-over par 151 after carding a four-over 76 in the final round. She beat teammate Stephanie Kim, who was third overall and one stroke back after recording a three-over par 75 on Saturday. Lauren Hernandez of Nevada won medalist honors with an even-par 72 in the final round to win by one stroke. She finished at six-over par 150 for the tournament. The 72 is tied for fourth best round in tournament history and second best overall score (three tied at 71) and her 150 two-day score was tied for ninth best in tournament history.

Oakcreek Country Club (690 Bell Rock Blvd. • Sedona, AZ 86351 • (928) 284-1660)  -- Head North on I-17 to Sedona exit. Take left on I-179 towards Sedona. Take left at the second stop light, Verde Valley School Road. Follow road for half a mile until four-way stop at Bell Rock Blvd. Turn right (north) and the course is on your left.
