CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior Stephanie Kim opened the 2012-13 season with two solid rounds to finish tied for fifth after 36 holes at the Oregon State Invitational on Monday.

Kim posted a one-over par 73 over the first 18 holes and finished with a one-under par 71 in the second round to close at even par entering the final round. She had seven birdies and seven bogeys on the day to lead the Lumberjacks.

"Stephanie played very well today," said Head Coach Brad Bedortha.

NAU is seventh overall in the 16-team field and leads all three Big Sky teams in the event. The Lumberjacks posted a 305 in the morning and a 299 in the second round.

"We moved up from 11th to 7th in the second round," said Bedortha. "It was the first tournament and we had some butterflies. But we got off on a good foot. We talked about competing and playing hard. Overall, I think we did a good job with that."

Washington posted four of the top five players in the field led by SooBin Kim, who carded a three-under par 141 and leads by three strokes. Washington State, Idaho, Gonzaga and host Oregon State round out the top five. San Francisco is sixth overall, five strokes ahead of the Lumberjacks.

Junior Kaitlen Parsons is seven-over par in a tie for 28th, while true freshman Savana Bezdicek was one stroke back at eight-over par  152 in a tie for 35th in her first collegiate tournament.

Sophomore Laura Jabczenski went 84-76 on the first day, while classmate Darian Spivey had rounds of 81 and 85.

The third and final round will be contested Tuesday morning with the Lumberjacks in the first group off at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Results can be followed live online on
