Golf Moves to Fifth Place at Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Senior Stephanie Kim dropped eight strokes from her Monday total and junior Kaitlen Parsons remained near the top of the leader board with a 77 in Tuesday's second round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.

NAU shot a 317 to slip to fifth in the team standings with a 631 two-day total. Boise State increased its first-place lead to 11 strokes and Portland State jumped up to second place with a 297 team score on the day.

"I'm pretty disappointed in the way we competed," NAU head coach Brad Bedortha said. "We didn't execute the way we want to in terms of the shots we should be able to play and the things that we can control. There were certainly some good things that happened but at the end of the day our score is our score and we just did not compete to level we need to compete at."

Kim had NAU's best round of the day with a four-over par 76, as the two-time Big Sky Golfer of the Year overcame a double-bogey on the first hole to shoot just two-over par for the remainder of the day with three birdies. Parsons also had three birdies to follow her opening-round 75 and move to a tie for 7th place at just eight-over par through two days.

Sophomore Darian Spivey carded an 81 and is tied for 31st overall while sophomore Susana Mejia shot an 83 on Tuesday and freshman Savana Bezdicek shot 86.

Sophomore Melissa Olson, playing as an individual, had another strong round on Tuesday with a career-best round of three-over par 75 as she moved into a tie for 16th overall.

"Melissa played great as an individual and did a really nice job," Bedortha said. "I saw her a few times out there and she did awesome. It's been fun to watch her getting better as the semester has been progressing."

The Wyoming Cowgirl Classic concludes with third-round play starting at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
