Bezdicek Freshman of the Year, Three Named All-Big Sky Golf

OGDEN, Utah – The Big Sky champion Northern Arizona women's golf team added some more hardware on Monday as three Lumberjacks were named All-Big Sky. Senior Stephanie Kim and freshman Savana Bezdicek were each named to the first team, with Bezdicek also earning Freshman of the Year honors, while junior Kaitlen Parsons made the second team.

The individual award winners and 2012-13 All-Conference Team were announced by the Big Sky office Monday. Ratings provided by Golfstat were used to determine the All-Conference Team, as well as individual honorees.

Bezdicek was the top freshman in the conference as no other freshman was named to the All-Conference teams. A native of Colbert, Wash., Bezdicek won two individual tournaments during her rookie season, taking medalist honors at the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invite and the Rio Verde Invitational, and ranked second on the team during the season with a 76.1 stroke average.

Bezdicek totaled five top-10 finishes this season and total a team-best six rounds at even or under par. She is the fourth Lumberjack in the last nine years to be named Freshman of the Year, joining Sophia Choi (2005), Ali Carter (2006), and Kim (2010).

Kim earned her third career All-Big Sky first team honor while she was also named to the second team in 2012, becoming one of only five players in program history to be a four-time All-Big Sky selection. She is the second-highest rated player in the Big Sky Golfstat rankings this season, behind Big Sky Player of the Year A Ram Choi of Portland State, and leads NAU with a 75.4 stroke average this season.

Kim totaled five top-10 finishes this season and had four rounds at or under par. She finished 11th at the Big Sky Championship and now has 28 career top-20 finishes. She currently has the three best single season stroke averages in program history.

Parsons, who received her second consecutive All-Big Sky selection, led NAU at each of its last two tournaments including tying for second place at the Big Sky Championship with a one-under-par three-round total of 215. That score tied former Lumberjack Bethany Leclair for the best three-round score in program history as Parsons recorded two of her four even or under-par rounds of the season at the conference championship. She totaled six top-20 finishes and has a team-best 97.2% of her rounds counter counted this season.

NAU will represent the Big Sky at the NCAA Golf Regionals next week. The field for the three NCAA regional sites will be announced at 6 p.m. tonight on NCAA.com.
