FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona University's women's golf team will compete at the Gold Rush tournament this weekend in Yorba Linda, Calif. The Lumberjacks will compete against the likes of Boston College, Cal Poly, Cal St. Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Gonzaga, Idaho, San Francisco, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and host team Long Beach State. The Yorba Linda Country Club will be the site of this week's tournament.
The two-day tournament, beginning today April 7th, serves as the final regular season tournament of the year for NAU before the Big Sky Championships. The Lumberjacks are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate last weekend.
Senior Kaitlen Parsons earned her fifth career Big Sky Golfer of the Week honor last week after tying for fourth place at last weekend's tournament in Tucson. The senior opened the tournament with a two-over-par 74, followed with a 1-over-par 73, and closed with a 3-under-par 69 for an even-par 216. The 69 was the lowest round of the season for Parsons.
NAU has bounced back mightily from a less than impressive fall season. Some strong play from the Lumberjacks in this final regular season tournament will be pertinent to building momentum going into the conference championships.
