OGDEN, Utah – The Big Sky conference has selected Northern Arizona junior forward Chelsea Bednarz as its Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Bednarz, in her first season at NAU after transferring from Santa Clara, becomes the second Lumberjack to win the award after fellow junior forward Jenna Samora received the accolade last week. Northern Arizona has now received either the Big Sky Offensive or Defensive Player of the Week award for six-consecutive weeks.
Bednarz totaled two goals for the week in leading NAU to a pair of wins and the Big Sky regular season title. She scored on a header off a corner kick from senior Brenna Boies in the Lumberjack's 5-0 win over Montana on Friday. On Sunday at Eastern Washington, the Chandler, Ariz. native scored in the 70th minute to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime, where NAU would emerge victorious and claim its first-ever regular season Big Sky title. Bednarz is second on the team with five goals this season and is tied for the Big Sky lead with four goals scored in conference play.
The Lumberjacks close the regular season on Friday, hosting Northern Colorado at 2:30 p.m. in Lumberjack Stadium, before hosting their first ever Big Sky Championship next weekend.
