FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The two-time defending Big Sky champion Northern Arizona women's soccer team will face its first opposition of 2010 on Saturday in an exhibition match at 5 p.m. at Embry-Riddle. Fans are encouraged to make the short drive to Prescott to see the Lumberjacks in action. Admission is free for the match, which precedes a scrimmage between the Embry-Riddle men's soccer team and Phoenix College.
Saturday's match will be the first opportunity for the 23 returning Lumberjacks and 10 newcomers to play together. The match will also serve as a warm-up for next Friday's regular season opener against Arizona State, as the Lumberjacks will host the Sun Devils in a battle between two teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament in 2009. Northern Arizona has faced Embry-Riddle in each of the last-three seasons, with NAU winning all-three matches by an aggregate score of 15-2. The teams met in Prescott in 2008, as NAU set multiple single-match school records in a 9-1 win.
Northern Arizona senior midfielder Brenna Boies, a two-time All-Big Sky first team selection, will get to play against her sister Blair, a freshman midfielder for Embry-Riddle. Head coach Andre Luciano and volunteer assistant coach Brady Flummer will be returning to their collegiate roots for the contest, as both began their collegiate playing careers in Prescott as goalkeepers at Yavapai College.
