Soccer Allows Two First Half Goals, Falls to Missouri 3-0

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri scored two goals in the first half to put the Northern Arizona soccer team in a hole early in the game, and added an insurance goal in the second half to defeat the Lumberjacks 3-0 Friday night at Walton Stadium in Columbia, Mo.

The Lumberjacks got on the attack right from the get-go but senior Jenna Samora's shot was wide of the net in the second minute. Two minutes later, freshman Sarah Tarver's shot sailed high.

The Tigers' sophomore Dominique Richardson gave Missouri a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, heading in the ball of an assist by sophomore Danielle Nottingham. Freshman Taylor Grant provided the Tigers with their second goal of the half in the 27th minute and Missouri took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Senior Sam Monahan tried to slice the halftime deficit in half three minutes into the second half, but her attempt went wide. That would be the Lumberjacks' only shot attempt in the second half and sophomore Brooke Williams tacked on the game's final score in the 73rd minute to seal the Missouri victory.

Missouri outshot NAU by a 16-5 margin, but sophomore Lauren Weaver made a season-high seven saves for the Lumberjacks to limit the Tigers scoring opportunities. Samora and Monahan each led NAU with two shots, with Tarver recording the fifth Lumberjack shot attempt.

The loss dropped the Lumberjacks to 0-5-0 on the season as they head to Lincoln, Neb. on Sunday to take on Nebraska. Kickoff is slated for 10:30 a.m. The Cornhuskers (1-2-1) claimed its first victory of the season tonight, shutting out Arkansas, 6-0.
