Soccer Hosts Fort Lewis, Clinic With NB3 Foundation Sunday

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team is back at Lumberjack Stadium this Sunday for the first of three home games to close out its spring season. The Lumberjacks will host Fort Lewis at 1 p.m. and the game will be free for all fans to attend.

"We're really looking forward to having a game at home," said head coach Andre Luciano. "We've had three great opponents in our three previous spring games, so it'll be good to see what our maturation process has been over those three games. To finally have a home spring game will be nice."

The Lumberjacks have played three games thus far this spring, all on the road, and have competed against a trio of upper echelon teams. They began the spring with a doubleheader against Arizona State and BYU, both of whom were NCAA Tournament participants in the fall, and then faced Arizona last weekend in Tucson.

Sunday's game versus Fort Lewis will be preceded by a soccer clinic from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in conjunction with the Notah Begay III Foundation (NB3). The NB3 Foundation's mission is to reduce the incidences of childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes while promoting the leadership development of Native American youth through evidence-based sports, health and wellness programs. The clinic, which is free to all Native American children ages 5-12, will aim to engage Native American youth in physical activity while teaching basic nutrition principles and to expose them to positive role models at Northern Arizona University.

A presentation by NAU's Native American Cultural Center promoting health and nutrition awareness will immediately follow the clinic from 12-1 p.m. and will directly lead into the game.

"The clinic is an important facet of our involvement with the Northern Arizona community," Luciano said. "We're excited to come out and provide a great clinic for the Begay Foundation and for these kids to have the opportunity to see a Division I level game live."
