Three Lumberjacks Selected to College Sports Madness Preseason All-Big Sky
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The College Sports Madness website has released its Big Sky All-Conference teams. After a strong 2012 season and earning All-Big Sky Honorable Mention selection, NAU goalkeeper Lauren Weaver has been selected to the pre-season All-Big Sky First Team. Last year, Weaver had career bests in save percentage (.841), goals against average (1.16), and shutouts (7). The senior from Winnetka, Calif. comes into the season ranked fourth all-time in NAU history with 226 career saves and 11 career shutouts.
Weaver is not the only one that earned an All-Big Sky First Team selection this pre-season. Forward Demi Schmieder was also named to the team after a strong freshman season with the Lumberjacks scoring three points and four assists for a total of ten points. Like Weaver, Schmieder also earned an All-Big Sky Honorable Mention selection at the end of last season. Schmieder, the local product of Coconino High School, was third in the Big Sky last season with assists and tied for eight with points.
Junior Midfielder, Emily Roth, was selected to the All-Big Sky Second team after earning 17 starts last season, Roth provided consistent play for the Lumberjacks, which earned her a selection to the All-Big Sky Honorable Mention team.
Weaver, Schmieder and Roth will all take the field this Saturday at Lumberjack Stadium when they host an intrasquad scrimmage at 7:30 pm and is free to the public.
