For UC Riverside
The Northern Arizona women's soccer team heads back to California after starting their season in California against Long Beach State defeating the 49ers 1-0. The Lumberjacks have started the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 2001. The road trip starts Friday night against CSU Bakersfield and then ending the road trip against UC Riverside on Sunday.
This will be only the second meeting between Northern Arizona and CSU Bakersfield, last season in Flagstaff and CSU Bakersfield defeated Northern Arizona 3-2 in overtime. The series between Northern Arizona and UC Riverside is split 1-1 with the last meeting back in 2005 in Riverside.
Scouting Northern Arizona
The Lumberjacks have been scoring by committee in the first two games of the season. Four goals have been scored by four different players (Tano, Stenger, Doyle, Wingender). For her great performance during week one of the season, Wingender was named to the College Soccer 360 Honor Roll team.
Scouting CSU Bakersfield
Midfielder Erica Shelton is one of the main weapons for the Roadrunners early this season. This past week, Shelton was named as the WAC Offensive Player of the Week recording a hat trick against Big Sky member Southern Utah. The Roadrunners have been explosive on the offensive side of the ball, scoring six goals in just two matches.
Scouting UC Riverside
UC Riverside is receiving contributions from young players like freshman Tatum Lockett who scored two goals this past Sunday, defeating San Jose State 2-1. In their first two matches, the Highlanders have scored two goals in each match but also have given up four goals.
