Portland, Ore. – The Northern Arizona women's took an early 1-0 lead over the number one team in the Big Sky Conference, Portland State. The Lumberjacks were unable to hold on to the lead in regulation and the Vikings came back to defeat the Lumberjacks 2-1 in overtime.
Northern Arizona suffers its first loss on the road this season at the hand of the Vikings who have yet to be beaten in the Big Sky Conference. The Lumberjacks were able to get on the scoreboard first with a penalty kick goal from Cierra Gamble. In the past four games, Gamble has been stellar recording 9 points (3 goals, 3 assists). Gamble's goal is her fourth of the season, which ties her for second on the team.
The Lumberjacks' defense was under heavy pressure throughout the entire match with the Vikings putting up 19 shots with six of them being on goal. The Lumberjacks were able to record five shots with one on goal.
The Vikings were able to tie the game in the 63rd minute with a goal from Eryn Brown. In the first overtime, Portland State's Cori Bianchini was able to score the golden goal in the 97th minute to give the Vikings the win.
The Lumberjacks end their road trip with a 1-1 record and are now 3-2 in the Big Sky Conference. Luciano and his squad will now head back to Flagstaff for Homecoming Weekend where they will take on Northern Colorado and North Dakota beginning on Oct. 18 at Lumberjack Stadium. Sunday's match against North Dakota will be Senior Day for Alana D'Onofrio, Shawnee Morgan, Lauren Weaver, Elinor Priest and Jordan Stenger.
