OGDEN, Utah – After an excellent 2013 regular season for the Northern Arizona women's soccer team, nine Lumberjacks were named to the Big Sky All-Conference teams. Senior captain Alana D'Onofrio and sophomore Cierra Gamble were First Team All-Big Sky selections.
D'Onofrio was a part of a great defense this year that allowed only 0.94 goals per game. The captain from Pleasanton, Calif. was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week twice this season and recorded an assist against Southern Utah.
Gamble is one of two Golden Boot winners this year as she tallied 13 points during conference play, which was tied for the most in conference this season. The Golden Boot winner is the player with the most points during conference play. The sophomore from Corona, Calif. played her best soccer when it mattered most during conference play when she scored four goals and handed out five assists. Gamble had scored at least one point in five straight conference matches.
Sophomore forward Haley Wingender earns her first conference honor as she made the All-Big Sky Second Team. The native of Henderson, Nev. was tied for the most goals scored this season for Northern Arizona and was second on the team with 13 points. Wingender led the Lumberjacks in shots with 26 and had two game-winning goals this season to help propel the Lumberjacks into the Big Sky Championships.
Senior forward Elinor Priest earns her first all-conference selection as she made the Big Sky Honorable Mention team after having an outstanding senior season. Priest was tied for third on Northern Arizona's roster with 21 shots this season and has been a player head coach Andre Luciano can rely on every match this season. This is the second award for Priest in two weeks as she was named to the CoSida/Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team selection for District 8 last week.
Junior midfielder Savannah Berry earns her first all-conference selection being named to the Big Sky Honorable Mention team. Berry notched seven points this season with two goals and three assists. During conference play, the native of Encinitas, Calif. tallied one goal and two assists as a vital member of the midfield for the Lumberjacks.
Northern Arizona's entire defensive backline earned All-Conference honors as freshman Danny Muniz, juniors Diane Buzzard and Sarah Tarver and senior goalkeeper Lauren Weaver earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention selections. Weaver was a part of a backline that recorded eight shutouts this season, while she recorded a 0.89 goals against average. This season, Weaver moved into second all-time in career shutouts. This the first conference honor for both Muniz and Buzzard and the second for Tarver.
The nine all-conference players is the most for NAU's soccer squad since 2010 when 10 players earned all-conference honors.
These nine players and the rest of the Lumberjacks now head off to Portland, Ore. for the Big Sky Championships beginning on Thursday, Nov. 7 against the No. 3 seed, Weber State. The match will be streamed online here.
