  • NAU Student-Athletes Give Back in Record Numbers During 2014-15 Year

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Last year, Northern Arizona University student-athletes performed an incredible 4,378 total community service hours setting a new department record. During the 2014-15 academic year, Lumberjack student-athletes outdid themselves resetting the record with over 5,000 hours out in the Flagstaff community and the greater Northern Arizona region in an outstanding department-wide effort to give back.

  • NAU Athletics Celebrates 42 Student-Athlete Graduates This Weekend

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In total, 42 Northern Arizona University student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend during the Spring 2015 commencement ceremonies held on campus yesterday and today. Including the 21 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2014 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 63 graduates for the 2014-15 academic year.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The academic honors continued to pile up for NAU Athletics Wednesday night as four graduating student-athletes were among forty-three students who received the university’s prestigious Gold Axe Award. The athletics contingent at the Gold Axe and Distinguished Seniors awards banquet included Diane Buzzard (women’s soccer), Laura Jabczenski (golf), Taylor Stephens (volleyball) and Johanna Vang (women’s tennis) as the quartet was bestowed with the coveted award.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Wednesday, NAU’s brightest student-athletes were honored at the 37th annual Golden Eagle Awards held at the High Country Conference Center. The annual luncheon recognizes Northern Arizona University’s student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 191 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments.
  • 'Jacks, Northern Arizona Community Come Together for Student-Athlete for a Day

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU Athletics Department, spearheaded by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), held its Student-Athlete for a Day on Tuesday for over 200 children throughout the northern Arizona region. The important Student-Athlete for a Day returned for the first time in three years and was a fun-filled day for both the Lumberjack student-athletes and the local youth.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After a Big Sky Championship in 2014 and an appearance in the NCAA College Cup, the Northern Arizona women’s soccer team had an assistant coach spot open up and over 100 applicants wanted to become a part of the Lumberjack Family. Head coach Andre Luciano filed through the resumes and after a thorough interview process, Vijay Dias has been named as the new assistant coach for Lumberjack soccer.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northern Arizona women’s soccer senior Diane Buzzard had an excellent career at Northern Arizona excelling on the field and thriving in the classroom. For her achievements this past season that ended in a Big Sky title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Buzzard was selected to the 2014 NSCAA Women’s University Division Scholar All-West Region Team as an honorable mention selection.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the 12th straight year, the Northern Arizona women’s soccer team has received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award. The Lumberjacks as a team posted a team grade point average of 3.31 during the 2013 season.

  • NAU Falls to ASU 4-2 in the NCAA College Cup

    TEMPE, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women’s soccer team made their first NCAA College Cup appearance since 2009 as they face in-state opponent Arizona State in front of a crowd of 2,067 fans. The Lumberjacks scored two goals, the most in an NCAA College Cup game for Northern Arizona, but it was not enough as Arizona State defeated NAU 4-2 to advance in the College Cup.

This year's inductees included All-American football player Dan Finn, national champion and Olympian Lopez Lomong, Big Sky Soccer Player of the Year and three-time all-conference honoree Cee Cee Odorfer and the Big Sky Tournament Champion 1999-2000 men's basketball team.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona women’s soccer team has punched their ticket to the NCAA College Cup for the first time since 2009 and will face in-state opponent Arizona State in the first round of the tournament. The Lumberjacks are riding a five-game win streak going into the College Cup after rattling off three wins in the Big Sky Conference Championships to take home the title.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Sunday, the Northern Arizona women’s soccer team punched their ticket to the NCAA College Cup with a 2-1 win in the Big Sky Conference Championship over Idaho State. Today, they anxiously waited to see who they would face in the first round of the NCAA College Cup. Lumberjack fans and the team gathered at Majerle’s Sports Grill to watch the selection show and on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. Northern Arizona will face Arizona State.
  • NAU Defeats Idaho State 2-1 in Big Sky Championship

    MISSOULA, Mont. – It took two goals in 90 minutes in 37 degree weather with rain showers on a slick playing field to come out as Big Sky Champions. The Northern Arizona women’s soccer team delivered two goals coming from Emily Wadell and Haley Wingender as the Lumberjacks defeated Idaho State 2-1 to take home the Big Sky Title for the third time in school history. NAU has now clinched a spot in the NCAA Tournament, which will begin next week.

    MISSOULA, Mont. – The Northern Arizona women’s soccer team reserved a seat in the Big Sky Championship with a 2-1 win over the No. 2 seed Portland State. In a 1-1 tie with 12 minutes left in regulation, Haley Wingender crossed the ball into the box for an Adrian Nixt goal to pull off the upset and advance to Sunday’s Championship game.
  • NAU Advances to Big Sky Semifinals with 3-2 Win over EWU

    MISSOULA, Mont. – The Northern Arizona women’s soccer team faced Eastern Washington in the Big Sky Championships who had defeated the Lumberjacks on Oct. 19 in Flagstaff. Today Northern Arizona returned the favor scoring three goals and defeating the Eagles 3-2 to advance to the Big Sky Semifinals.

Atop the group is senior Sarah Tarver and junior Haley Wingender who were named First Team All-Big Sky.

The Lumberjacks will kick off the conference tournament in Missoula, Mont. as they face the No. 6 seed Eastern Washington. NAU goes into the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
