Gilbertson Captures First Career Big Sky POW Honor

OGDEN, Utah – After facing 39 shots in 200 minutes of play, Northern Arizona women's soccer Natalie Gilbertson has been named the Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the week for her exceptional play between the posts this past weekend.

Gilbertson was stellar in goal on Thursday night against the University of Arizona coming up with nine saves. Gilbertson's biggest save of them all was in the first half when Hannah Wong had the chance to give UofA the lead off a penalty kick but Gilbertson came up with the big save to keep the score at 0-0.

Gilbertson, a native of Las Vegas, Nev. and the Lumberjack defense stepped up their game even more on Sunday recording their first shutout of the season in their home opener against Valparaiso.

In 200 minutes of play this past weekend, Gilbertson recorded 14 saves and allowed just one goal with a 0.50 goals against average. Gilbertson now has 23 saves this season, more than every school in the Big Sky besides Montana. The redshirt sophomore also leads the Big Sky in saves per game averaging 7.67 per contest. After four games, Gilbertson has 0.90 goals against average, which puts her fifth in the conference.

This is the goalkeeper's first career Big Sky Player of the Week honor after missing last season due to injury. Gilbertson and the Lumberjacks will be back in action this Sunday, Sept. 7 against South Dakota at 12 p.m. at Lumberjack Stadium.
