Game Notes

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's soccer team will host the Mountain Classic this Friday and Sunday as they welcome Grand Canyon, Southern Utah and Wright State to Flagstaff. On Friday night the Lumberjacks will begin the Mountain Classic against Wright State and then on Sunday NAU will conclude the tournament against in-state rival Grand Canyon. The Lumberjacks will not face Southern Utah as they play each other during the conference season.

Coach Luciano Quote of the Week

"This week is another great opportunity to play at home after getting a good result last week against South Dakota. We have a tough opponent in Wright State who has played Louisville and Wake Forest who is a top 25 team in the country. They are going to be very aggressive and take a lot of shots so we have to be ready defensively and continue to progress offensively. We welcome the opportunity to finally play at home on a Friday night under the lights."

This will be the first ever meeting between Northern Arizona and Wright State. NAU is 2-0 against Grand Canyon and this will also be the second straight year the Lumberjacks and 'Lopes have squared off in Flagstaff. Last season NAU defeated Grand Canyon in a 1-0 win in Flagstaff.

Scouting Wright State

Wright State has scored three goals this season coming from three players in Bryce Hueber, Addie Englehart and Ashley Miltko. Before the Raiders' 2-1 win against St. Francis (PA), Wright State had been shut out in its three previous matches and outscored by three goals. Goalkeeper Halle Pyle has played every minute in goal for the Raiders posting a 1.15 goals against average.

Scouting Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon has faced every opponent that Northern Arizona has played this season. Both the Lumberjacks and the 'Lopes lost to UNLV and UC Riverside and tied Valparaiso; the only difference in the team's records was against South Dakota, which NAU won and GCU suffered its third loss of the season. The 'Lopes are led by Maria Monterroso who has three goals this season for a total of six points. The only other player to score a goal is Sirena Seymour and only one player has recorded an assist this season in Shannon Costello. Monterroso and Seymour are the only players for Grand Canyon to record double-digit shot attempts this season. Goalkeeper Blakely Fraasch has played in all 381 minutes, posting a 2.36 goals against average.

First Win in the Books

Northern Arizona is coming off a thrilling 3-2 win over South Dakota after Haley Wingender scored in the 85th minute to give the Lumberjacks their first win of the season. The Lumberjacks' win over the Coyotes featured the most goals scored by NAU in a game this season with three goals from Emily Wadell, Adrian Nixt and Wingender. Both NAU goalkeepers played in the match versus South Dakota as Natalie Gilbertson started the match but Meghan Dickmann was forced to sub into the match after Gilbertson suffered an injury.
