FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After a weekend of two goals and an assist in two wins over North Dakota and Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona soccer's junior Haley Wingender has been named the Big Sky's Offensive Player of the Week.
Wingender started out the weekend with a goal and an assist in Grand Forks, N.D. to help lead the Lumberjacks to a 3-0 win over North Dakota. The native of Henderson, Nev. came up clutch on Sunday's matchup against Northern Colorado as the Lumberjacks and Bears were scoreless for 109 minutes and 30 seconds; with the game looking like it was going to be a draw, Wingender was able to put the ball in the back of the net for the 1-0 win over the Bears.
Wingender's goal against Northern Colorado was her fifth game-winning goal of the season and second in conference. The junior forward is second in the Big Sky with eight goals this season and second in points with 19.
When Wingender has recorded a point in a match this season, the Lumberjacks are 7-1-1 and the reigning Offensive Player of the Week has recorded a point in eight of their last nine matches.
Wingender and the Lumberjacks will be back in action this week at home on Friday, Oct. 17, against Montana, who currently sits in first-place in the Big Sky, and Eastern Washington on Sunday, Oct. 19, at Lumberjack Stadium.
