FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University women's soccer team released its 2016 schedule featuring nine home matches, nine away matches and one neutral match at the UNLV Rebel Classic in August. Head Coach Andre Luciano and the Lumberjacks will gear up for a competitive slate of non-conference and conference opponents after finishing 4-1-1 in the 2016 spring campaign.
"We like to have a balanced schedule that provides us with a lot of solid teams and even some NCAA participants," Luciano said. "I thought we had a very strong spring season with a lot of young players stepping up and into new roles."
Northern Arizona will open up the season with an exhibition match at the University of Arizona on August 12. The 'Jacks will later play host to Utah Valley State in their home opener set for Friday, August 19 at 7 p.m. The weekend of September 9, NAU will also have its annual Mountain Classic Tournament in Flagstaff with the University of Illinois-Chicago and University of New Mexico attending.
To open up the conference season, Luciano and his squad will take on Portland State and Sacramento State at home on September 23 and 25 respectively. In its final home match of the 2016 campaign, Northern Arizona will square off against Southern Utah before the Big Sky Conference Tournament – dates and times still pending.
"We're excited about what we saw this spring as well as our incoming class," Luciano added. "Our players are up for the challenging tasks ahead of us."
