Swimming and Diving Wins in Double Dual against Oregon State and Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Northern Arizona women's swimming and diving posted impressive results at Arizona in a double dual against the Wildcats and Oregon State.  The Lumberjacks were aided by several top performances in the pool and in the diving events defeating Oregon State, 160-133.

The Lumberjacks had top times against a pair of Pac-10 schools, Arizona and Oregon State, winning the 100 freestyle and 200 breaststroke.  Chalene Dirks-Ryan won the 100 free with a time of 53.96 while Stirling Smith finished first with a time of 2:24.45 in the 200 breast.

NAU scored big in the diving events with second place finishes on 1-meter and 3-meter from Taryn Harris.  The senior diver qualified for Zone Regionals for the fourth straight year earlier this season.

The women were defeated by Oregon State last year, but answered with its biggest win of the season on Friday.  The team recorded its first ever victory over Oregon State in their five previous matchups.

DID YOU KNOW…Northern Arizona swimming and diving has been recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for its academic excellence in the classroom. The women earned the Division I Team Scholar All-American award for the fifth time under head coach Andy Johns in 2010.
